First Troop Meeting of the New School Year!

Posted on Sep 11 2015 - 8:14am

The first Troop 104 meeting of the 2014-2015 school year will be Monday, September 21st at 7:30pm.

As our practice, this is the first scout meeting of the month and therefore scouts who own "Class A" uniforms (actually called the BSA uniform) should wear them!  If you don't yet have a Class A uniform, don't worry about it; please come as you are!

June Court of Honor Delayed until 6/22

Posted on Jun 8 2015 - 9:15am

Due to the large number of scouts close to a possible rank advancement, the PLC voted to delay the Court of Honor from June 15 until June 22.  Scouts hoping for a rank advancement (e.g. to Tenderfoot) should get their last requirements signed off tonight and ask for a Scoutmaster conference immediately afterwards.  It would not be a bad idea to come in your class A uniform tonight, just in case you do get signed off and we can fit you in for a Scoutmaster conference.

Sunday is the Lions' Club Pancake Breakfast

Posted on Feb 25 2015 - 8:49am

Scouts and Scouters,

On Sunday morning, the Scotch Plains Lions Club is holding their semi-annual Pancake Breakfast, at the Scotch Hills Country Club (http://tinyurl.com/ldn66uj). Troop 104 scouts always volunteer to serve as their waiters and busboys. We do this for them the last Sunday in October and the first in March -- and have for several years. It's a great and fun opportunity for community service (the patrons are very friendly to us; they truly enjoy interacting with the scouts, so it's easy for all). Often the youth meet and get photos with the mayor or a congressman.  It is also good to support the Lions, a wonderful organization which has been very good to us over the years (e.g. they donated Troop 104's "gear garage" which we use on most campouts).

Scouts are needed for one or both shifts (7:45am-10:00 and/or 9:45-12:00). Please wear your Class A (brown shirt) if you have one, and plan to arrive at 15 minutes before the hour (to eat your free breakfast; then plan to stay at least 10 minutes after your shift (to clean up and transition to the next team).  Some scouts find it helpful to carry a pencil and a small pad, to help remember orders — but this is entirely optional because there is not a lot to remember (they basically serve pancakes and sausage, eggs and ham, juice and coffee/tea).

We like to field at least a dozen scouts per shift, so that the work stays light and everyone has a great time.  Please email Ms. Rhein at grrhein@comcast.net with your Scout's name and which shift they'd like to work.

Families should consider stopping by and buying breakfast to support the Lions Club, too!

Troop 104 Meeting for Monday 1/26/2015 postponed to Thursday due to weather.

Posted on Jan 26 2015 - 10:19am

The National Weather Service is predicting a pretty severe snowstorm to be rolling Monday (1/26) which we feel will prevent us from having our Troop Meeting safely; we will postpone it until THURSDAY, 1/29/15 at 7:30-9:00.
